SELECTING YOUR TRIP

The Wilds of Maine offers trips for all ages and levels of expertise from novice to experienced. We have paddled with one individual through to large youth and corporate groups. Until a trip is booked, we can be flexible in the dates to suit you or your group's particular needs.

Let us know your interests and abilities, and we can recommend a scheduled trip or design one to suit. You can call or email us for more information or to discuss your particular interests.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We provide a fully guided and outfitted expedition for all the rivers we paddle. We arrange all transportation to the river from the group meeting point, and provide paddling and poling instruction as desired. We have all equipment available such as canoes, PFD's (life jackets), paddles, and tents, although guests may bring their own equipment if suitable. We also provide all group camping gear (cooking gear, tarps, etc.).

Your guides will prepare all meals while on the river. We have developed a menu full of variety and fresh ingredients, with breakfast and dinner prepared over an open fire. Individual dietary requirements can be accomodated. The trip cost includes all transportation to and from the river from the group meeting location, river permits, paddling and group camping gear, guide services and food while on the river. Guests are responsible for travel to and from the trip's meeting location, hotel accomodation (unless otherwise noted) and food prior to the first river meal. (Photo by Patricia Davis.)

SAFETY

Before all else, your safety is our number one priority. All participants are required to be properly wearing PFD's at all times on the river. At the river, we thoroughly review paddling techniques, river characteristics and self-rescue skills. Our guides are fully trained in CPR and wilderness safety, and are equipped for river rescue should it be required. Mike's wife, Shauna, accompanies him on most trips and is a Registered Nurse and past First Aid Instructor for the Mountaineers Club in Seattle.

BOOKING

Once you've selected your trip, we will send you a personal information sheet, trip agreement form and packing list. To reserve your space, a 30% deposit is required, with the balance due four weeks prior to the start date.

We understand that at times it may be necessary to change your plans, and we are able to refund your deposit and any balance paid up to four weeks prior to the start date. After this time, we may have incurred expenses associated with the trip, and cannot refund the deposit. No refund of either deposit or balance can be given within seven days of the trip.

TRAVEL

For trips requiring airline travel, we recommend that you make arrangements to arrive at the destination early the day before the start date. We specifically recommend that you do not book the last flight in. This gives you some leeway in the case of flight or baggage delays.

Guests may want to visit the area before or after the trip and we can provide you with local hotel and areas of interest information.

We recommend that you consider travel insurance for financial protection in case of flight delay or cancellation, lost or delayed luggage, or personal medical needs or emergency while on a trip. Your travel or insurance agent can assist you with more information.
